Becoming the Practitioner
Extended Learning
As a professional working in Arts and Education, it is important for me to teach focussed skills alongside teaching trust, negotiation,
consultation, project management etc and the holding of a role and responsibility. Life doesn't happen in a vacuum, and real learning doesn't either.
That is why learning in real contexts, in collaboration and partnership with industry and community is so vital.
Fantoche X Refresh - Animated Film Festival and Hybrid Digital Conference Zurich 2022
Extended learning, is the learning that you facilitate that goes beyond your syllibus specification. It is resourced but not over-planned,
it is so important that the appropriate
space is provided for learners to decide themselves how they will take their learning forward.
Creating opportunities for learners to meet industry practitioners, and to learn in real contexts is integral to my learning design - It not only allow
for students to put their learning into practice, it also helps to ignite that spirit of enquiry & develop learners who are able to
successfully navigating the modern world.

The word "Minimalism" in relation to how I use it, is the idea that the "seed" as a single idea, within it has the potential of a full grown tree, a forest, an entire
eco system.

«As well as developing my own productions and getting a number of placements in Media via Getty Images;
over the years I have been DJ'ing in various locations, playing sax with a weekly residency at Bar 5 Derby,
most recently providing sound engineering support to Tony Coffey MBE for
his album projects.
I've also been providing sax recordings for various artists.
A collection of patches for the Korg Opsix and Minilogue XD are also being designed for release later this year.

Moving image with music is an ongoing concern of mine...
As an artist/creator, you can develop your own style and set of aesthetic principles,
however what keeps me wanting to complete projects is the idea of moving on to new terrain.

Learn how to learn
It's surprising how
adults especially, often don't know
how to learn..
effectively
Learning is a skill like any other that requires, training and, a reflective process.
In a modern world – there are always new skills to learn – new tools to acquire. Workflow and approach is always fluid, never remaining exactly the same.
Questions like "What programs do you know? What languages are you familiar with?", aren't nearly as relevant as "what are you exploring", "what did you discover"
"how can we synthesise this in an exciting and meaningful way.
Every digital literacy I have, has been self taught, and often tackled over a very short period of time.
Being versed in creative design tools does allow you to quickly navigate new terrain, with an idea of where to look and how to creatively exploit your tools;
But most importantly I believe, is the refining of an approach, a philosophy and an attitude, towards creative realisation.
Execution is everything and "Perfection is a very lazy word".
.......... keep hold of small ideas, pockets of sound, fragments of conversation, objects, places and spaces,
they all have the potential to grow into something greater: Perhaps a story, a piece of theatre or a musical symphony..

the multi demensional wilderness
stillness in action.
Ideas are in everything and are hidden everywhere....

Vibes & Science
"A ring weighs an ounce of gold, but there has to be four ounces behind it to push it into the mould.
... the work is more than what we see: What was the story, the inspiration, the struggle that
lead up to this very moment of creative realisation?
What starts off as a simple idea or motif, can be elaborated upon and quickly evolve into a complex and
sophisticated language of movement, music, light and sound.
